I had my floors refinished, they were no where close to being even to begin with. so now the guys say they are ready for poly. When I run my hands over the floor you can feel some wavyness in it but looking at it you cannot tell. (raw wood) what should I expect? should it be perfectly smooth or should I expect some differences? It is smooth but has some waves.
Thanks for the response

Large waves are tough to avoid.
Ripples are not normal.
Hi gloss finish will show more "defects" than a flat finish.
doing a couple of my own right now, house built in the teens. they were pretty rough in the fact that from board to board was uneven. started sanding with 20 and have progressed up to 100 and getting ready to poly tommorrow.
are they as flat as glass,no way not even close. but they will look pretty good and have some patani of waveness in them.it's just to be expected in old floors.
if you want a prefectly flat floor thats what pergo is for.
is the varnish completely sanded off at the edge where it meets another board? to me thats saying you've sanded about as much out as possible.larry
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T
MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE
DUCT TAPE.
The finished floor will show more wavy-ness than the unfinished floor.
I guess it depends on what you're feeling. Were these guys professionals or did they use rental [ugh] equipment? Some rental equipment even a pro could not do a decent job.
So the glossier the finish the more it will highlight any flaws. Good luck.
Oh, old floors can and should look like new floors when they are resanded if the foors were in decent shape.
What species of wood is this?
Something like pines will show more wavy between summer wood and winter wood. is this wavy with the grain or perpendicular to it?
How does it LOOK? how it feels makes little difference unless you plan to spend the rest of your life fondling it. ;)

Give them another pass with a large orbital flooring sander. That should help alleviate the waves.
I thought it would be ok it is pine and no I do not plan on fondling it I 've done enough of that (too many splinners )
I was suggesting sanding not fondling, but you can do what ever turns your crank.
I think he was confusing your comments and mine.who'd a thunk!

We're both confused, so it doesn't matter ;-)
