Do you guys or your flooring subs install flooring under dishwashers? I do remodeling work (small jobs since I work by myself), and since going solo a year and half ago, I’ve done five kitchen floors (ceramic and vinyl). More times than not, the guy before me put the flooring about 6″ under the dishwasher. I always pull the dishwasher and install flooring underneath and then caulk around the floor where it meets the cabinets. Is this overkill? The theory (and I’m no Greek philosopher) is that if the dishwasher has a small leak, the water will flow out from under the machine instead of slowly in to the framing or cabinet sides out of sight. Obviously, if the floor is out of level, the theory is shot.
