framing bulk head with recess lighting?

” Framing for bulkhead with recess lighting “
Greetings, to all who may have the knowledge to construct a bulk head framwork. It will be assembled on both sides of chimmney, in the living room. My dimensions are, 51 1/2″ length x 16 ” height x 11 1/2 depth . I have already installed Bruce 3/4″ hard wood flooring. My next step is to do something to this fire place but 1st things 1st.
I’m all ears DRUMMERBOY!

Build two frames from 2x2 with studs @ 16" centres, making them smaller than finished dimensions to allow for whatever finish materials you are going to apply. Screw the frames through their top plates up into the trusses, using a stud finder if ceiling is already finished. Cut 2x2 spacers to run horizontally between the two bottom plates and install with screws or air nails. Two or three plywood gussets will help stiffen the assembly. Now you are ready for finish, drywall or panelling or whatever.
Note: Check local codes re clearance to combustible material. In Canada it is minimum 2" between flue and wood framing, so those dimensions would need to be kicked out a bit to provide clearance. It just occurred to me that you could do it with non-combustible steel studs so the clearance needed goes down to 1/2". Of course if you have insulated flue then this is not an issue.
Thanks you slykarma," now thats what I'm talking about". I didnot think to use steel studs! The steel will be a better material. I have to insulate around the lights anyway. By the way, the flue is already insulated>>.I really eager to complete this project....
just like a busshel of screws, I needed that info.

Check with manufacturer, but if you have insulated flue then you won't need as much clearance.Lignum est bonum.
I don't know why you mentioned that you had already installed flooring, when the task you are asking about has nothing to do with flooring, and when you said 1st things 1st, I would cover the floor with some rosin paper, or some thing else, if this flooring is already finished.
