I had hoped that someone with experience with this material would respond to your questions. I'm also interested in learning more about this wall system from people that have used it. Wrote this post so it looks like some activity has taken place and maybe someone will respond. Framing can be such a lonely profession.
*Guys-there is a video available through TrusJoist MacMillen that covers your questions. Get in touch with them and they will send you one- no cost- maybe postage.
*marshall... quit yur whinnin.. at least yur not a lighthouse keeper...
*Jim, I did some framing with these studs (or a similar product) a few years ago. On the plus side; they were all perfectly straight just like the advertisement claims. really nice for kitchen walls and similar locations where a flat surface is necessary. obviously framing went slightly faster since you never had to worry about "crowning" the studs. As far as negatives... I think the biggest downer was the fact that like so much other laminated material, they tended to swell thickness-wise. Slap two together and they would run about 3-1/8" three would aproach 4-3/4" etc. This was especially a problem in those areas where the architect or draftsman would crowd windows, doors, wall corners, etc.together in a confined space. I never had any problems with nailing them, but then we were using senco nailers and... well don't get me started on a nail gun tirade here.... All in all, I feel that the benefits of using such nice straight lumber far outweigh the drawbacks

*Was told by my t.j.m. supplier that the shortest length one could get in our area was 16', so we tend to stick with 2x dimensional. Would have liked to use it though, maybe shorter lenghts are now available? (this was 2 years ago). Haven't seen any builder use it here, except on the timberstrand rim joist used with the t.j.i. joists.
