Hi Guys! Thought I would pop over here from fine cooking and ask a couple of questions, you seemed like reasonable folks -
1. I have french doors leading from den onto deck. The outside was finished with stain and then poly ( satin ). After 1 year, the bottoms are badly in need of sanding and refinishing. What should I finish them with this time? Do they just need extra coats of poly? In the summer, they are in full sun and I know that is brutal, too. Help? TIA
2. What is the best way to patch a gyp board ceiling? Any tricks I should know, or just put the piece in per normal? TIA again.
BTW - why haven't you guys checked in at FC for awhile??
*wolverineOn the doors, I would sand them down as much as possible an restain. (it sounda like someone didnt use a good exterior grade poly). Refinish with a good spar varnish. I like McCloskys Boat Coat. Follow the directions on label. It has a Uv inhibitor in it, so it will darken the door a little. How big is the patch in the ceiling? Most of the guys wives wont let the old reprobates back on FC site.Rick Tuk
*Thanks Rick.Patch will be about 18" square. Just enough to annoy me.On the doors - our stain is dark anyway, so that's not a problem. Any brands ( incase I can't find McClosky's ) that I should avoid?? I'ma gonna do it myselfa this time!Send the wives to talk to me - we are friendly, really we are - harmless, too. ;-)
