We’re in the process of relocating our kitchen to a room with existing pre-finished plank board oak flooring, and have concerns about the grooves between boards creating a maintenance problem. The boards are 2 1/4 to 3 1/4 inch wide. Gaps are present between almost all boards, and range from 1/16 to 3/16″. It would be helpful to hear of others’ experience with kitchens with this type of flooring. Does sticky food residue accumulate in the grooves and become difficult to clean? Are there any fillers which woul d eliminate the grooves, yet expand and contract naturally with the wood boards? Does hardwood strip flooring avoid this problem since the grooves are much smaller? Does this floor sound problemmatic to you? If so, are we better off trying to fill the gaps, or replace the floor?
Thanks,
Alice

Alice,
Wood floors in a kitchen is always a problem over time,I always try to talk people out of it.One leak and u have more trouble.
I would remove the wood floor if u are going to put somthing else down as the wood moves and could cause a problem later.
You would need to talk to a house wife as far as the cleaning goes.
good luck,
ted
