they come apart and throw the blade at ya....

Come apart and throw the blade?! I have always thought of General as a high end brand of hobbist woodworking tools. Is the saw a low end offering from the company?
there was a thread about that saw some time back...
Heck was looking at one and somenody reported that was what happened to their saw or maybe it was a friend of their's saw....
I could be mistaken on the brand...
let's ask Heck...

Be careful, there is General and there is General International.
The General equipment coming out of Canada is quality equipment but the General Int is cheaper import stuff.
I wasn't aware that General made a chop saw? I thought all they had was stationary tools.
Did a quick google on General tools and came up with several types of tools, hand, industrial and woodworking tools.

If they did, it's be like if Grizzly came out with one. It merely be an import deal of a quality just skinch above Harbor Freight ####.I think Metabo introduced one a while back, but I hadn't heard anything one way or another about it - that and the Festool are the only new ones I've heard of lately. It'll be interesting to see if Milwaukee puts their newfound dedication to woodworking tools to use on a nice saw design. They haven't had a new saw since the 10" slider that wasn't that special a long time ago.Julian

When I lived in Texas there was a store that tried to sell/carry Metabo tools. I took a look at the slider and it looked nice but hard to really say anything good or bad about it cause I never got to use it.
They had a whole line of Metabo but several months into it they stopped carrying them. I asked one of the guys that worked there why they were gone and he said that they had not sold one single unit, sent them all back.
I used to use a Milwaukee slider, built like a tank but not that great a saw. I've been hearing that Milwaukee is going to intro a 12" slider for some time now but still nothing, don't know that I'd give them another chance anyhow. I like my Makitas just fine and unless I find a deal like you did on CL I doubt I will be buying a Festool chop saw!
