Has anyone else run into this problem-
I am installing a prefab glass block window(made by Pacificaccent) in a tiled shower as part of a master bath remodel. The plan review guy specified this as a hazardous location and said the block has to comply to the section in NC code for glass block construction. This section only talks about building a masonary glass block wall. I don’t think he has ever seen a premade glass block window.
Unfortunatly I discovered after getting the window it is not certified by any outside party
I was just wondering if anyone has run into this before
Thanks

Sound koo koo to me. Exactly what specs does the block window have to meet?

I think he's confusing glass block wall versus window issues. Tell him it's just a normal window supported with R.O. framing. What happens inside the R.O. is within window requirements, not walls.
That being said, I assume you're accounting for the fact that this is a shower install, right?
Scott.
Always remember those first immortal words that Adam said to Eve, “You’d better stand back, I don’t know how big this thing’s going to get.”
I think he understands this is a window installation now. His other issue is the window does not have a certification sticker with u/r values. Also their is nothing specific in the NC code about using prefab true glass block windows so without the certification sticker he has no place to go in the code book to say it's okay.
Yes I am taking into account that it's a shower install and sealing everything around the window
Thanks
That's a weird one. Perhaps the manufacturer can help you... certification should be their responsibility. Sounds like you're stuck in the middle.Scott.Always remember those first immortal words that Adam said to Eve, “You’d better stand back, I don’t know how big this thing’s going to get.”
