I am looking for a good carpentry
reference book. Sometimes I run into a
situation that needs an answer I dont
have, or I cant call a friend who
usually has the answers. Any
suggestions

There are a number of them. Taunton Press even publishes some. Check out their website. Must be around here somewhere.
You didn't say what kind of carpentry you wanted to do, so try:
The Very Efficient Carpenter,
Larry Haun, Taunton Press
(basic framing for residential carpentry)
It would make a nice text book. There is also "Rough Framing Carpentry" and all sorts of others.

Yes, John, you are correct.
Taunton Press does have good books on carpentry, woodworking, woodturning, building, and other things too.
I think that their website address over there is something like http://www.taunton.com.
Or, someone could ASK JEEVES at http://www.aj.com.
Hope this helps.
*Gentlemen. Is Leonard Koel's Carpentry passe? GeneL. Although not as well illustrated with color photos, Craftsman's Rough Carpentry is an old standard. GeneL.

Gene,
You are too modest. So I will mention COMPLETE BUILDING CONSTRUCTION, by none other than our very own G.L.

Koels book is still the basic apprentice text here in Ontario.
*I would like to add...Carpentry & Construction by Rex Miller and Glenn E. Baker ISBN 0-8306-3678-1.There is a lot of things that I question, so I am saying dont take the book completely at face value. But, it is worth the $35 in that it helps get a good foothold on matters at hand. And it does offer enough information to identify what area one might gather further information in. Hope this helps.
*I vote for "Modern Carpentry" by Willis Wagner.
*Gentlemen. Reed's Residential Carpentry isn't bad.And of course there is also Feires's and Hutchings's Carpentry and Building Construction--1117 pages. GeneL
