Put on a new roof over the last winter and now am wrapping up the painting of the details on the eaves. New fascia all the way around the hip roof. 150 LF of fascia on a 2.5 story house.
I need to make a decision on gutters. This is a 100 year old four square. I plan on using 1/2 round with fascia bracktes. I am more wondering about materials. Ideally I want a flat black finish and something that is going to last as long as the OC Oakridge 50 roof we put on. It’s between Kynar steel, Galvanized (possibly powder coated) and aluminum. The Kynar is nice but pricy and I assume I would need to dress every cut in order to preserve the protection offered by the finish. The same really goes for galvanzied. Aluminum seems to make sense but I wonder about it being able to last the test of time.
Any thoughts? Should I go cheap and use raw galvy and dress the cuts?

Seamless heavyweight aluminum is your best bet, IMO.
I took a differant approach.. I first looked at what would be the most durable, then I found out what it cost and finally I figured out a way to afford it..
I bought copper. Massive cast bronze brackets every 2 feet. I can honestly do chin ups.. (well hang my fat body from it)
No way would fat old me install gutter by climbing up a ladder. I used scaffold and it set's up quickly. Then it's just a matter of walking along and putting stuff where it needs to be..
The money I saved by installing it myself allowed me to have the best without compromise.
The alum half round gutters are preferable to anything but copper, IMHO. All that I've seen (I sell and install guttering, by the way) is heavy (.032") aluminum.
The weak point is the two piece Berger fascia hangers (#10 shanks and circles). The 1 piece #10 combo or the cast aluminum fascia hangers from Classic Gutter Systems are much preferred.
Unless you keep the inside of the galvanized gutter primed and painted, they won't last 10 years. I almost refuse to sell it anymore.
I don't have any experience with kynar or galvalume gutters, but I'm sure the cuts are susceptible to rust.

That's where my thoughts were going. The galvy products and even the Kynar sound great but without spending ages installing and getting all the cuts sealed they aren't going to last.
Good tips on the fascia brackets. What kind of spacing do you suggest for northern climate and 6" half rounds? I really want to do 32" OC to line up with the corbels under the eaves that are on 16". Is that pushing it?
32" is about the max for the Berger hangers:

That's for KY snow loads. With these hangers:

Hey thanks.
I will likely go with the .060 stamped Al fascia bracket. It couldn't hurt to have a little more strength if I decided to strech past the 24" OC to 32".
