I started running my HardiShinge and followed the directions by first nailing on an 1 1/4″ strip and then an 8″ plank before running the first course. Everything’s going fine but I’m coming to the tops of the windows.
Do I need to run the 1 1/4″ strip and the 8″ backer above every window? I’m assuming I have to do something since the course over the window won’t have one below to kick out the angle.
Also, if you do treat each window head this way, wouldn’t there be a bump in the wall here, or does it all blend in?
Does this apply to ALL features such as shed roof intersections, deck scuppers, etc?
Finally, I’m finding that just nailing about an inch below the tops of the shingles leaves the shingles just a little loose. You can knock on them and they sort of clap against eachother. Is this normal? I tried adding a couple nails just above the notches (I think this is called double nailing) and it helped a little.
Thanks everyone!
Jim

flashing strip above the window (looks like a Z shape)... strip om tp of that...
that 1-1/4" stip is realitive to the siding break...
look at a cross section of the lapping... you can approximate from there...
or notch out a piece of siding to go over and around both sides of the window...
as far as locations.. yup...
cut to fit and lap disposition.. no bump..
