Hi,
This is my first post so I apologize if I placed this in the wrong forum. I recently purchased HardiPlank Select CedarMill and HardiPlank Trim for my house. My father and I are going to install it. I’m putting the trim on the corners and around the windows. He wants to cut a rabbet on the back of the trim so we can slide the siding behind it instead of butting and caulking. Still have to butt and caulk around doors and baywindow. Is it ok to install it this way, I’m afraid if there is any movement of the house during the winter…I live in upstate NY.
Thanks.
Robert

Don't do that. It is not necessary.
Around here we build everything out with 1x, then put a colored z flashing on top of the 1x. Then put you siding on and followed by your finished trim.
What's wrong with me? I could ask you the exact same thing.
