Construction to begin on our new home and I am wanting to install a finish in place hardwood floor (entry and great room). I have been considering different tropical hardwoods. Do not like Oak or maple. Too much of a heavy grain and/or to light. Priorities would be durability and stability (movement). Flooring to be installed over plywood sub floor (finished basement below)
Does anyone have an opinion on Merbau, Kempas, or Sapele? I recently heard of them, but do not know much about them. We seem to like colors similar to cherry. What about Brazilian Cherry? Also…any recommended sources? We are in the Charlotte, NC area.
Thanks in advance!!!

Durability and stability would lead me to suggest quartersawn white oak.
You can finish it any way you choose.
It's the way to go.
check hardwoodinstaller.com for both a very good forum and a source of matrial.
