Hello,
I’m planning to build a covered deck out of white oak (rot proof) framing, posts and decking. I’m also planning to use pine timbers for the roof and roof sheathing.
Can anyone provide a link to or source for hardwood and softwood timber span tables?
I’ve been searching the web for span tables for hardwood timbers (i.e. 2×8’s, 4×8’s, 6×8’s … in white oak). I found an online span calculator that handles standard 2x material (http://www.awc.org/calculators/span/calc/timbercalcstyle.asp) but not the larger timbers.
I have the standard span tables for 2x dimensional lumber for SYP. I’m also looking for the same for SPF.
Thanks,

You could adapt the standard tables by using the formulae and substituting the Fb values for the oak.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
I have a Tedd Benson book on "Building the Timber-Framed House," in which he has some tables, allowable stress ratings for various species, and how-to formulae, but I don't know of an on-line source.
Got a good public library?
