Hi,
I have been learning a lot from fine homebuilding, but haven’t seen any mention of heating a walk way.
My 70 year old father has a brick walkway to his house, but is not able to shovel it or deal with ice build up.
I know that heating elements can be built into these walkways, but it would be nice if there was a “roll out” carpet like material that could be placed on top of the walk way & plugged in. This would allow the snow and ice to melt during a storm.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
John

JLC has an article about heated driveways this month. Not what you wanted, but a nice article in any event.
*John,There is such a product as you describe... comes from a company called Clear Path. This is a fairly new product and I am just now investigating using it as part of my arsenal. Send me an email directly if you need more info.Ron

Reminds me of when I was living in a Chicago burb and an immigrant moved into the neighborhood (immigrant meaning someone who was from a snow-free southern clime). All of our asphalt driveways sloped to the street, as can be common in housing developments. His bright idea one morning after a medium snowfall (a few inches) was to run a hose from the washing machine hot water tap out through the attached garage and to spray off the snow with the hot water. No shoveling, and he was off to work in just minutes. When he came home from work that evening, guess what car couldn't get up the drive. Maybe I have too much to do already around my house that I haven't gotten to details like heated walkways outside, but I might someday. Maybe then I'll also be able to answer questions from people having problems with their in-ground sprinkling systems. Or I'll just be playing golf.
