some of my neighbors have pre-cast concrete steps. many of them have had salt put on them and the step deteriorates. they have decided to put a Brick step in. They know very little about brick steps.
What kind of Bricks should they use?? regular bricks or paver bricks?
what kind of morter mix?
this will be in Michigan, where we have lots of freeze-thaw cycles.
and how do they keep the bricks from separting from the mortar over time??

"this will be in Michigan, where we have lots of freeze-thaw cycles."
There's your answer: don't use brick.
*thanks Bob.so i am assuming that u dont think that brick would hold up in our climate.maybee they should just put in pre-cast concrete steps, there about 1/10 of the cost of brick.jon
*I'll state up front- I'm not a professional mason. However, the city I live in has, for years, built catch basins using "Paver" bricks and Portland/sand mix mortar (no lime for protection against salt) and they hold together extremely well. Decades later they'll come out of the ground in nearly one piece when excavating.
