Help After impressing my wife and friends by doing a good job refinishing our oak floors (they had been carpeted.) I could not leave well enough alone. I was annoyed by one small streak, where the stain was a bit light. not leaving well enough alone, one thing led to another, and I had sanded through the polyurathane to bare wood in that spot, then I restained. I could match the stain perfectly, but the border is quite visible. Am I going to have to redo the whole floor? I used Varathane brand Diamond elite water based stain, and Diamond elite floor finish. Thank you
If the news is bad let me know now, so I can get started sanding.

Eric, get started... urethane doesn't repair easily, and will require a overall sanding and recoat.
*Eric, What shows the line, the stain or the varnish?Lee
*Hi Erik,You might save yourself a lot of grief and possibly a little money by bringing in a real pro. painter. Ask around, talk to contractors, and fine a good clean up man. He will be able to blend his start and finish lines so well that you will not be able to find them.Don't worry, after more than 30 years in the business, I still have to admit, been there done that.Gabe

it is the stain that shows the line. and of course it is only where the line crosses the grain that it shows. the border that runs with the grain turned out all right. On a different area, where I only repaired the urethane I had no problem blending it in.
thank you for your response. erik
*Good advice Gabe, I would take it one step further though. Call an on site furniature repair company. They will amaze the heck out of you. If anybody can hide it, they would be my first choice. I've seen some pretty incredible work from these craftsmen. Oh and don't tell Fine Woodworking I said so.SteveM
