what are the NC / SC laws governing design work in your state ?
can you design any residential building.. is there a limit on the size..

Planning a move, huh? :) Closer to the kid and grandkid? Charlotte-ish?
Can do any residential, any farm building, and commercial up to $90k. Can't call oneself "Architect" unless licensed, of course (last show we were filmed for they called me that...no way to correct, but it wasn't my doing).
Engineering is up to the permitting people, but since my buildings are engineered by definition, we'd meet that condition whether required or not.
That cover it?
Edit: missed some questions. Never yet had a problem getting approval in any state I've designed for, including NC. My drawings are pretty thorough and professional, I believe, so I've not had trouble. Or maybe it's that my buildings are so strange to them that they figure that 10 or 12 pages gotta cover just about everything, and how would they know what's missing anyway. <G>
Not aware of advertising restrictions in the law beyond use of terms requiring licensing, but then, I don't advertise beyond my web site. Friend just got his NC GC license, and that involved a bit of work...don't know all the details.

thanks... just like to know what our options are
one of the guys from AIBD on our Chief Architect User site said NC was very strict..
doesn't sound like it from your descriptionMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
I had a good lawyer advise me when I started and set up the contract, so assuming he advised me properly...
Boy, those are two words that are not often seen together here - "good" and "lawyer". That's refreshing. <G>.
