I’m going to try this question in a different category. I posted it under heating and didn’t receive any responses. In this site, I can’t believe I found a subject which nobody has an opinion on! | |
I’m adding radiant floor heating to my 2 story house during a complete remodel. I am also wanting central air, and am looking at high velocity. I would prefer not running a duct from the basement to the second floor (lack of good space for it). I am considering having 2 separate air handlers, one in the basement for the first floor and one in the attic for the second floor. I saw some information on the UNICHILLER system (using chilled water for the refrigerant) which appears to work well with multiple air handlers. Does anyone have any experience with this system, or have other suggestions? |

The recipe for linoleum hasn't changed much in nearly 170 years, yet it's still one of the greenest floors money can buy.

No experience here, but just to learn more about what's out there, you might look at http://www.hi-velocity.com. This requires a conventional AC condenser and coil, but it's also a system that you can use to heat a home. Not a plus if you're committed to in-floor or baseboard, but it's still technically hydronic in that you're pushing air oavr (or pulling it thru) a hot water coil. So you get the bennies of high velocity circulation (no hot/cold spots) but not the negatives of flame-dried air.
We have the Unico system along with RFH. Works fine. Till you add a second air handler and coil, might get a bit expensive, but the product works.
I have a Dunham/Bush "Space-Pac" system that I installed 27 years ago as a retro to an existing structure. I have only one air handler in the attic. It sure solved my problem with ducts and chases. I was even able to access most of my first floor rooms. I've installed two other setups on retro jobs and been well satisfied.....my clients were also happy with the results.
I've had no experience with Unichill.
