im bidding on a trim job and am just looking for some opinions on my prices. Job is a 2500 sq new custom home in NY, 70 miles north on NYC. Doors are all regular prehungs, 3/4″ jambs. Base is 3 1/2″ colonial. Just labor. I figured $40 a door installed trimmed and lockset, about 15 of them. $400 to base the whole house. $25 a window, includes installing 3/4″ sill with horns and apron with mitred returns. I know its kinda vague but and input will help. Thanks!

Joe I'm in the Washington Metro area (DC) and on custom homes here's where we're at:
1 Doors prehung (no split jams) cased and hardwared $40 to $50
2 your $400 for base seems a little low. I charge per ft. and it sounds like a deal at $400
3 Windows with mitered returns and aprons at around $20 and for casing add another $10 to $15 dollars.
All of this depends on the type of trim and how much the rooms are cut up. Also take a look at the windows and see if they are flush with the drywall.
*Bill's right,

*Joe don't you love those tappered(sp) jamb slivers And those "few minutes" spend cutting proud drywall back from the jam. Or scraping drywall mud off of window jams and how about plumbers and duct men with chain saws in your set case work? My faverite is the home owner who sets his cold beer on my cast iron table saw and leaves it there all week end?
*A simple trim job for me is as you describe. Hang doors, base and casing. No shelving, rails, paneling, cabinet or stair work. For paint grade stock mouldings, I start at around .60 per sq ft.

*See what I get for having a nice clean work area
*Bill, do you ever get windows, or exterior doors for that matter, that are flush with the sheetrock? Pulling the windows in or rearranging the rock are part of the job around here. Now ,jamb extensions are an extra, haven't killed me yet. Just learn how to say "CAH-CHING!"60 cents seems a mite low, a basic, paint grade, high quality job here starts at a buck and a quarter.I still don't make enough, BB
