I am new to rough in carpentry and have been working with experienced carpenters who hate math but love rafter books etc. My problem is that I know there has to be a formula to figure this cut. We have been building 7 in 12 returns on the front of our gabels (7 in 12 is roof also). When running the soffit material (12″) up the gabel it has to be angled on the bottom to “match” the return (leaving a gap for roofing materials off course). Can someone please give me some mathmatical formula to fugure this? Please! These guys laying the material in and making an educated guess, then adjusting and adjusting yet again is killing me!
Thanks so much and best wishes to all!
