Hello –
Yet another ductwork topic here.
We are getting quotes on installing central A/C in our 1950’s era brick ranch and would like to make the right choice in the type of ductwork that is installed.
The air handler (or is it the blower ?) and supply/return ductwork will be intalled in the attic.
I have seen flexible plastic tubing wrapped in fiberglass and also the rectangular metal ducts wrapped in some sort of rigid foam material with an outside cover of foil sheeting.
My concern is with fiberglass particles infiltrating the ductwork due to sloppy or careless installations. Are there any “official” safety procedure recommended among the HVAC folks to deal with this concern ?
Another consideration is factoring in the cost of replacing the ductwork in the future and making sure the operation is fairly straightforward if it becomes a DYI job.
I see that there is plenty of debate on the type of filtration, so I will read up on the comments.
Thanks for your help.
Alan
