It's hard to make a comeback when you haven't been anywhere.
hey Boss , that just reminded me..my customer has a blue tractor (ford) and the hydaulic line RIGHT at the pump was leaking ..not the fitting, but a inch or so away..steel line 3/8 or so..makes a few bends going up too the dashboard lever..
he gobbered it up with JB weld and HOSE clamps..gotta cut it now to get it off..and we want to replace JUST A SMALL Length..with a compression coupling and a new end fitting..is this doable? copper pipe? steel line? flex hose?
whatwould you do? replace the whole line? $$$$$$$$$
Is Tractor supply open on Sunday..LOL
Got lots sa hay to roll still..

Make up a hydraulic hose with the ends that fit . Then get the real part later ,when you have time say in the next five years.
now that'sa plan..thanks!

It's amazing what you can fix with JB weld.
No way would I use copper for a hydraulic line. It ain't made for that kind of pressure.
I like to be able to rely on stuff. So I'd probably replace the whole line, if it up to me. If one part has gone, there are probably more spots that are worn and/or have metal fatigue. In calm water every ship has a good captain. -- Swedish Proverb
good point..
yup, JB is my friend too..buy I don't think I woulda tried THAT..lol

I know it is not good to let water creep in or to let hydraulic fluid leak out

not good to let water creep in
Actually, FWIW, many A/C hydraulic systems specify that the hydraulic fluid (not the same as tractor fluid) contain just under 2% water - there is a definite notch in the viscosity curve at that water content.
aircraft?? i work pumps, motors, actuators, vavles... its all the same really... ac just cost more... will be glad to offer my limited assistance...

A/C cost more..
yep, I made annodized titanium hydraulic fittings in a past life..all for the A/C industry..we just coated them, no machineing.

its absolutly incredible what parts cost in this industry... i am shocked that any airliner can afford to fly... little housings that cost thousands of dollars.. and i mean the size of my fist small... its amazing... some of it is more complex of coarse but it all works the same...
ps, i checked out the website, pretty cool.. how do you get the concrete in that shape??We were the winners, cause we didnt know we could fail....

what web site? what concrete? ya lost me..

here my question. building a home made wood splitter using a two way ram. I need a lever control with netrual center and up one way and down the other way. So many levers in the catalog, I do not know what they call the lever control I need. three way, four way, spool etc...
thats easy, its called a spool valve. try norther tool company, i am sure they have what your looking for... just curious, do you have plans for this? what about the pump? the cylinder? you just need a simple spool valve try this link... if this dosent work just go there and type spool valve...

Just replaced the controller on my JD track loader with a new prince joystick controller, what a nice upgrade, although it needed the hoses rerouted to retrofit from the original.
By far the cheapest place I've found for cylinders and valves is the closeout page at prince hydraulics, less than 1/2 the price of northern on lots of items.
http://www.princedirect.com/pages/closeout.cfm
Upgraded to the joystick (2 spool w/float) as that site had 2 controllers on closeout for $87 as one of the 4 mounting holes wasn't tapped (apparently costs them more to tap it out of mfg sequence than to sell it closeout) , list is $287!
PS: to answer the original question, a simple 2 position is all you need. Again, look at the prince web site, they have lots of terminology explanations and simple pictorial hydraulic diagrams. Also, use a 2-stage pump, much faster.
