I don’t know why I never did this before.
I’m just completing a flooring re-do on a staircase, replacing the carpet with tile. The treads are saltillo with 1/4″ grout joints and there are glazed decos for the risers. The nosings are oak. Rather than grout between the tread tiles and the nosings I used matching sanded caulk. In the past I’ve always delt with these caulk joints just like a grout joint which is difficult since the caulk can’t really be allowed to set like grout. The caulk wants to wash out. This time I masked both the tile and the wood nosings, caulked the joint, made a swipe with a wet finger, and immediately removed the masking tape. A perfect “grout” joint using caulk.
I’m sure that some smarter people than I have done this but I thought I’d pass it on to those who haven’t.
I’ll post pictures in the gallery later.

Great tip.
Have done similar on tile to hardwood transition (floors) and other disimilar material. That tape if done right and pulled properly and at the right time-a very neat line. Many color matched sanded and unsanded for that matter, are right on with color and texture (the sanded). Even in the event the edge of the caulk lifts just a tad, a wet finger will often lay it right back down.
Waiting for the pictures.
thanks.
