   I always thought it was "spline drive shank". I think bosch is wrong.

   *Well, my first thought was Bosch is full of crap. Then I looked in the catalogue, and they have similarly specced tools in SDS-max, SDS and spline drive, and adaptors to go between the three (and you know there are the dang slots for the dang splines on the SDS, so ?). Also a hex and a round hex to complicate things. But Bosch aside, I still think SDS generally means spline drive system. You'll have to break my fingers to make me think different.

   I had to contact Bosch directly but according to their technical service center, SDS stands for Special Direct System. I know all of you fellow techno-nerds and information junkies out there will appreciate the end to this age old question.
