…and missed a day of work today. Sure, it was a holiday, but I was planning on working. Picked up my lumber Saturday, since I knew my local lumber store would be closed today. Spent the day being miserable. Might have to stay home again tomorrow – pretty grueling job I’m on right now, wouldn’t want to chance anything. Retrofitting three massive glue-lams about 16′ up, with myself and one inexperienced helper (and a Genie-lift!), then adding the structural supports below, and a boatload of LTTI31’s and a few HTT16’s.
So to those DIY’ers who love to crab on professionals and how much we charge (and who really get under my skin!) – who pays for that? Uh, – its gotta be figured into the overhead, sorry. And, Oh yeah, now I won’t be where I said I would when I made my schedule last week. I’ll call, but some people won’t be happy. Yeah, us professionals are not only over-priced, but also just so dang unreliable!

Word, man. You said it all.
In watching the obituary's, guys my age are dying left and right. I'm left here wondering whether or not I'm living my life to it's full potential? I hope so, I so don't want to leave anything on the table.

Real pro's work when they're sick.
Uhhh...Real pros goof off most of the time, but get paid reeeally well the few hours they do. We make the impossible look easy..and we work really effeciantly.
Uh, yeah, that too.
Sorry you are sick (and cranky too <g>). Most of us have been there. As much fun as it can be to work, sometimes you need to ask, when is enough, enough? Sometimes your body just tells you.
Curious though - why the rework on the big beams? New design or failure?

Owner/builder hired hack framer, who stick-framed site-built scissor trusses out of overspanned 2x6's, instead of engineered trusses like the plans called for (and a lot of other hack work I've spent weeks completing and/or correcting!). Building dep't caught it on the third trip out to inspect for corrections (O./B. kept calling in for re-inspect without checking to see if all the corrections were finished first - they were starting to get mad and look for stuff, but it was definitely a legitimate call).
Then the owner/builder had a falling out with the architect, who refused to sign off on corrections, partly because he was mad at O./B. for making field changes without consulting him. So the whole house (two of them, actually) had to be re-engineered, since the city said the architect-of-record had to sign off on everything, or else an engineer would have to sign off on everything. The beams and hold-downs are part of the engineer's fix.
The house in question is framed and wrapped, insulated but not rocked. Same house plumber cut all the pipes in my thread Plumber Didn't Get Paid.
Worked late Friday getting the beams up. Wow what a challenge that was! the biggest one is 6 3/4" x 16" x 18'. They're just in place and temporarily braced. 'tho, and still need a lot of work.

Mike, so Huck doesn't get the wrong idea.
Sunday I took time from my busy schedule to play with joyce, jacci, and blair. His club is in peak condition. So nice in the fairways I had to adjust my game. At any rate, got to try out a new King Cobra-9 deg. Mama...............nice club. Unique sound, but mucho power. Check it out if you get a chance. I need a 60 deg. wedge. And an Adams 2. Do you think I can wait till Christmas, it'll make their shopping easier.
And then yesterday, can't believe we pulled ourselves out again for a round and dinner with friends.
