I went today and got my business license and applied for my EIN/TIN, and I’m going tomorrow to get a business checking and savings account set up.
I chose to start my own business both out of convienence and for personal benefit. 1) As a “sub” for the company I presently work for, it makes my tax situation better (long story). And of course, now I can do small jobs legitimately.
That’s it in a nutshell…wish me luck!
P.S. How do I get my new signature to be single spaced?

now you'll get to see how much this self employ crap really costs ...
wait'll yer "boss" hears about it!
Start looking hard for "side work" .... you're heading there quicker than ya think!
Have some fun along the way ..... give yourself an afternoon off soon ... enjoy the fall weather while it lasts.... little things like that make self employ worth all the headaches ......

To Jeff: Just talked to the boss; he thinks it's great. (I bet he does LOL.) I've already begun my first side job replacing lap siding for my best man's mother. Was gonna do it as a favor but she wants to pay me, so great.
To Luka & everyone: Thanks, and yes I either factor in for estimating in my estimate, or charge outright for it (as described in Running a Successful Construction Company by David Gerstel).Jason Pharez Construction

Best of wishes to you Jason. Self employment's great, if you have lots of aspirin.

All the best to you.
I have been doing my own thing for two years now and I, hopefully, will never go back.
Congratulations, Jason!
In those little moments out in the future when you are doubting whether this was a good idea, just remember that those are little moments and are no comparison for the satisfaction of doing your own thing!
Best of luck!
Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a carpenter to build one.

Go to 'My Preferences' where you enetered your signature and check to 'Sopurce' 'button.
You will notice that each line of your signature is inclosed in <P>...</P> tags. These stand for paragraph (Duh)
You want each new line to be preceded by a Break <BR> tag.
