I was just going to get a card table with folding legs and stick it in my basement laundry room, but I thought I’d utilize your experience for some creative ideas on what to get. I don’t want to make anything, I just want to buy something.

Skim-coating with joint compound covers texture, renews old drywall and plaster, and leaves smooth surfaces ready to paint.

I just had my favorite cabinet maker build one for a customers new house. He's building it to match the rest of the cabs (hickory)...wasn't much of an add-on pricewise (about $170).
Give us a floor plan with dimensions and some pics and see what flies.
Being as a card table seems to be exactly what you need I dont know if my suggestion is warrented....here ya go none the less. I recently completed a basement remodel which included a laundry room. HO wanted a laundry table that could be folded out of the way. I used a 2' x 2' piece of melamine and attatched it to a wall using drop leaf hinges. Large enough for a laundry basket or setting out an item of clothing to "flat dry". Easy and inexpensive, drops out of the way when not in use.

Be kind to your back, think about making it taller. I am 6'6, and all my counters and workbenches are tall -- my workbenches I make at 42-45", my last 'real' job, I had an trimming/assembly table at work that was 10'x3', that I jacked up to 46.5". A card table is pretty short for most folks to fold laundry on w/o bending too much.

I am 5'3" or 5'4" all my counters are short!
Excuse my ignorance, but is melamine the stuff that you make kitchen/bath countertops out of? Particleboard with a veneer?

Not the countertops, but the inexpensive vanity cabinets. Yes its a composite board with a veneer. Readily available at any lumber yard or home center.J. D. Reynolds

Do I understand that you need a laundry folding table, or a folding laundry table?
I'm looking forward to the day we can add a laundry room, and will build a cabinet about 6' by 24" deep with some doors and a couple of drawers, and buy a cheap (but not bad looking) counter top to throw on. The big box stores have ready made cabinets, grab a couple of those and a formica (plastic laminate) top. Will cost you total about $120.

Hey Jen, youse gots kids right?
since the plumbing is all there anyways, do what I did and have a shower in the laundry room. Dirty kids go though the shower and the clothes go into the machine. Or vise versa if they have been getting on your nerves.I'm all here....... 'cause I'm not all there!
Brilliant! Put the dogs in there too after they've been in the mud...or me after crawling under the house, etc, instead of dragging my dusty bod through the house to the shower, and then carrying the crawlsuit back to put in the washing machine...

What I also did was to share the p-trap of the shower with the floor drain of the room (incase the washer overflows). That way the p-trap stays wet and no sewer gases come up.
I did have lots of plumbing room as the laundry room is over the crawl space. 4 feet of clear drop to the main drain of the house.I'm all here....... 'cause I'm not all there!
It might not fit your application but one house I did work at had a converted door, hollow core with laminate glued on, mounted horizontally on the wall opposite the washer and drier. They used brass chains, hinges and two two slide locks to hold it folded flat against the wall when not in use. I thought it was a good idea. Handy but out of the way when not needed.
Since you don't want to make one, and would rather buy something...go to Sam's Club and buy one of their plastic top, rectangular shaped, folding leg tables. I think they are approx 20 inches wide and 5 ft long ( best guestimate). If I remember, they cost around $40 each. The tops are heavy duty, white plastic ( easy to mop up spills, and fairly light weight). They are approx. 30 inches tall.
