I want to build an armoire to house my home computer. It needs to be a nice looking piece of furniture as it will be in my living room. If anyone knows where I can get measured drawings for this project, please let me know.

George,
I have a computer armoire that i bought at Best Buy. With the 15 million pieces it included, I would say that the 370 bucks was worth it because building it from scratch would have been a bear. I would guess that this thing custom built would cost around 3 or 4 grand.

*George,Why not buy the armoire that you want and then retro-fit it for your computer? We do that all the time for customers here. I took a beautiful 19th century bombay chest and made a bathroom sink vanity for a lady once. I told her it would ruin the antique value of the piece, but that's what she wanted so I did it. Broke my heart to cut into that beautiful old piece of furniture.Ed. Williams

Thanks for the info!! Is Best Buy a store? If so, we don't have any around here. Is your cabinet from a specific manufacturer? Maybe if I know who maufactured it, I could find out what other stores they sell it in. I have a specific type of furniture in mind - I already built a wall unit in my living room and I would like to match it. Basically what I need is where to get hardware and the size of the specific shelves. Any other info would be appreciated. Thanks again!

*Ed -I just got a 6" Delta planer and that new 2HP Porter Cable router for Father's day (I kind of knew I was getting them) so I want to build! Build! Build! Plus I thought building one would be less expensive than buying one already built and retro-fitting it.George from Jersey

George,
There is a great woodworker's shop here in Cleveland called "the woodworker's store" go figure. They have a website and catalogs and they have absolutely everything. I think they recently changed the name to "rockler woodworking and hardware" Check them out at http://www.rockler.com.
By the way, Best Buy is a huge computer store..nationwide chain I would assume. Nice place, cool stuff. The name of my armoire manufacturer is Sauder.

*Pete -I was thinking of furniture stores not computer stores so that's why Best Buys didn't sound familiar. See my post to Ed. I think I will check out the website you suggested - thanks!!George
