I am in the midst of renovating a single floor addition (built in the 50s) on my house and would like to have a cathedral ceiling with recessed lights. The rafters are only 2x8s so I won’t be able to add much insulation on top of the IC-rated recessed lights. I figure that there will be 1 1/2 inches of space between the top the recessed light unit and the channel vent that I added to ensure airflow between the roof and the insulation. I am contemplating using rigid foam in this space as I can get a little extra R-value (7.5) that just packing it with fibreglass. Can anyone see any problems with this, or recommend a better idea?
