By the way--the walls of the garage are sheetrocked and the ceiling is sheetrocked and insulated.

No
*around here you would insulate the floor of the living space and the gyp would be 5/8' firecode as you need a one hour rating from garage to living space
*Around here such a suicide lay-out is illegal. I'd crack open a window in the garage and leave it open, permanently.
*suicide lay-out?????Millions built that way and very few suicides....Have a beer, no I recomend a six pack a day at least for tension...Near the stream, garage attached and not calling Kvorkian anytime soon,J
*Jack....where is this stream and do you practice flyfishing? Just curious as your many refrences to flowing water make me long for the time i once was 'whipping tips' at my local river....enjoy life.mike
*It's a beautiful stream this time of year 50 yards up my side hill...brookies sometimes...just pleasant to listen to her spring rage of flow...In the bed near the stream on the mountain,J
*Long underwear, heavy socks, and gloves with the fingers cut out. Dennis
*unintentional suicide is what I meant, building a bedroom over a garage. A lot of people warm their car up in the garage and Carbon monoxide could potentially sift thru the ceiling and keep your mother-in-law upstairs sleeping from ever waking up. And I must be wrong about it being illegal because when I think about it, I know of a couple places like that around here. Oh well, I'm humbled.
*Here in Northern VA it is common to insulate the exterior walls of the attached garage. They also insulate the interior walls between the garage and living areas.Yes, carbon monoxide is a problem if you warm up the car in the garage. This is why it is against CABO to have a door from the garage to a bedroom.Earlier here in No.VA a man commited suicide in his car in his condominium garage. He almost took a teenager in the adjoining condominium! Big push by the news media to encourage purchaseing CO detectors.Frank
*I usually see the exterior walls insulated, but insulation in the walls and ceiling by the living space is MUCH more important.
