   *around here you would insulate the floor of the living space and the gyp would be 5/8' firecode as you need a one hour rating from garage to living space

   *unintentional suicide is what I meant, building a bedroom over a garage. A lot of people warm their car up in the garage and Carbon monoxide could potentially sift thru the ceiling and keep your mother-in-law upstairs sleeping from ever waking up. And I must be wrong about it being illegal because when I think about it, I know of a couple places like that around here. Oh well, I'm humbled.

   *Here in Northern VA it is common to insulate the exterior walls of the attached garage. They also insulate the interior walls between the garage and living areas.Yes, carbon monoxide is a problem if you warm up the car in the garage. This is why it is against CABO to have a door from the garage to a bedroom.Earlier here in No.VA a man commited suicide in his car in his condominium garage. He almost took a teenager in the adjoining condominium! Big push by the news media to encourage purchaseing CO detectors.Frank

   *I usually see the exterior walls insulated, but insulation in the walls and ceiling by the living space is MUCH more important.
