Having a small water problem with one wall in my basement. Prior owner installed a perimeter french drain about 12 inches from wall, but never put any weep holes into the wall to relieve water filtering in from the side. Most contractors are proposing to dig the floor up again and put weep holes into the wall which will correct my current water problem. The difference of opinion is whether it is better to leave 1″ gap along the wall with stone to let any water flow into the drainage system or to put a nonpourous rubber material along the wall and floor and recement over this which should allow water coming from the wall to flow under the rubber to the drainage.
Any thoughts on either of these two methodologies?
Also, if only when wall is leaking and that there is a current system in place, does it make sense to open any additional sides except for the one that is leaking?
Thanks!

David,
Is it not possible to drill relief holes in wall below the basement slab and seal it all back up?
*It is. Most companies do not do it and rather leave the inch gap. The ones that seal it put a Mead drain on top to let the water flow under and into the piping. This supposedly does the trick and should keep radon low (a problem in my area). The one thing I am not sure about is do these systems really work or are the open systems more effective.
