Hello All,
Thought it was about time that I had something useful to say.
It was about 4 years ago that we built our Ipe deck. We did the ebty + wiping down the ipe with acetone and gluing the boards down with PL premium method.
After all this time the install still appears to be holding up fine. I don’t have any loose boards that I can tell and it still feels solid.
If I was going to do it again I think that I would use the metal connectors they have out now over the plastic eb-tys.
Just a data point for people.

Thank you Daniel. Follow-ups are hard to come by.
Why would you use the metal system today, over the Eb-Ty?

Daniel,
Just curious - why would you choose the metal fasteners over the ebtys?

FHB did a not too in-depth article on the different fastener systems a couple of issues ago. I believe that there was a metal clip made from stainless steel? At the time it seemed like a better way to go because it would be stronger (I think) that the EB-Tys and that it had a lower profile. That's all, the EB-Tys appear to be working fine I would just choose the belt-and-suspenders approach I guess.

Daniel,
Good to hear from you. How's that old house coming along? I used to see a lot of posts from you on the old house forums.
Do you oil the Ipe boards every year. If so how has the color held up over time? How about a few photos of the deck.

Hi Mike,
Check out the other thread that I posted about just these exact questions.
I've been super busy with getting married and switching jobs and all that grown up crap. The house is still coming along some day I will actually get the electrical service upgraded and finish the guest bedroom/bathroom and maybe even convert the attic (I hope).
