Doing a remodel of a two level kitchen counter. The counter is in a “J” with one leg 9′, 45 deg turn, 6′, 45 deg turn then 6′.
The remodel replaces formica tops with granite tile. The lower counter rests on base cabinets. The upper counter rests on a 2X4 stud wall.
The counter will overhang 10-11 inches. The new counter will be two layers of 3/4″ BC ply. That should be enough to prevent flexing. Need advice on how to strengten the attachment of the upper counter to the top of the wall. I am not comfortable with just glueing and screwing into the ends of 2X4. Corbels can be added under the counter but “only if and as neccessary” Unless corbels are placed at studs, 16″ on center, placing corbels at other spacings means many of the corbels will be resting on unsupported drywall. Almost ready to tear down existing wall and start from scratch. Any ideas out there?
Thanks

If the drywall is off you could put 90 ell brakets & anchor to the underside of the bc ply.
exactlly what i did before but I welded up some 2" x 1/8" flat l= like that with the 2 legs down 3.5" apart and about 10" long ( a T with 2 down legs) the legs bolted/screwed to the 2x4s the counter sub screwed to the top of the T... to this day i don't know that it was really needed... but it looked like it should be there

How about bolting a steel plate to the top and putting the counter top on that?
Then you wont need any corbels.
hammertwo , So many ways of doing the same thing , you could put a backer board behind the corbels , space them correctly and use the back rail to help fasten properly .
good luck dusty
