I need to get a rack for my van. Standard issue Ford Econoline van.
What do you have for a rack on your rig and what do you think about it? I’ve been reading on the internet and websites for racks like American Van and I’m reading that some racks rattle and whistle and are hard to operate. If I’m going to be springing a grand for a rack I don’t want any skeletons in the closet so to speak about them.
I’m considering this one: http://s3.amazonaws.com/finehomebuilding.s3.tauntoncloud.com/app/uploads/2019/01/26011332/pro2van_large.jpg
But I also just found this one too: http://www.americanvan.com/catalog/standard_wide.cfm?FamilyID=205
Can anybody weigh in on theseor suggest something else?
Thanks

The ABSOLUTE best ones I have used is by Trac Van. No noise whatsoever. And I do alot of highway driving. Now your ladder may hum but you can combat that by shooting great stuff in the hollows of the rungs and cut off the excess. This way you don't get the "blowing in a jug noise" from the ladder. I skim coated the great stuff with a little Alex Plus to prevent UV break down of the great stuff.
I got my racks, set of 3 bars, at HD for $450.

I just looked em up on the web but were lousy pic's. What kind of system for tie downs comes with these Trac Van units? I can't tell from the pic's.

Trac Rac
Shoot me an email and I will remember to look for my invoice I believe I got my way cheaper than the previous poster.[email protected]
Yeah, the Trac Rac is cheaper. It is for a truck and only comes with 2 uprights. All you need really. Mine are from the same company and called Trac Van. I have 3 bars, shim set for a Chevy, 2 hold downs per bar and I bought 4 extra.

Trac Rac is for a truck only? This website show it on a van:

Wil a 4x8 sheet of plywood fit between the uprights/tiedown thingie?

TracRac is the name of the company, TracVan is the name of the product that TracRac sells for vans.
Yes, more than enough room for plywood.

These are the ones that came with mine. They slide up to your load and the knob can be tightened to prevent load from moving and then I use a ratchet strap on the rear and a bungee in the front.

Systen One is the best hands down compared to any other rack out there. Especially with the rachet system and the price. No one else compares. I've had mine for 7 years now and they are still going strong.
I've got Trac Rac's Van Rack on my truck cap. I installed it on their "gutter clips" so it wouldn't sit so high. Now they have a lower profile bracket you can use.
I love them--they are very sturdy, look good, and are minimalist. No road noise that I can tell unless I'm carrying ladders, in which case the ladders whistle. For a van you might want three racks, but I've been surprised that I can comfortably carry a 40' ladder on my two racks mounted 66" apart.
I have one that swings down in order to get to the ladders that we took off. It's in great shape an is yours free if you'll come get it.
