Long time no see everyone.....
I've been working on an addition to our Court House in downtown. For the last several weeks 3 carpenters, 2 apprentices, and 2 labors have been building forms for the foundation walls that stand 2' thick, 14' tall, and total 75 lineal feet long, And a section of tunnel thats 10' x 10' which will eventually lead underground 1 block the the county jail.
Last week me and another carpenter were pumping 130 yards of concrete from the top of the walls. While two other carpenters were still tieing iron, and forming the bulk-head on the other side of the tunnle. All day long him and I muscled that pumping hose from one end to the other , while everyone else tryed to stay ahead of us, with the beam pockets, conduit, more iron that had to be mucked in, ect. It was a rather fun 12 hr. day...
Any way, As far a REALLY LARGE pours go, 130 yds. may not be a lot, especally to some of your Big city guys.... But it was still a good sized pour, and do you want to talk about A LOT of re-bar we had to tie!! It reminded me of a bridge I worked on many years ago when I was an apprentice. ( maybe that was only a few years ago.)
There is a lot of bridge work and even a damn thats to be built in this area, I might have the B.A. send me to one of them, it think it would be neat, besides, I'm do for a change.
Well, Do we have any bridge carpenters out there, Some say were a whole different breed of carpenter, How much truth is REALLY to that???
