Log cabin rebuild

MikeR | Posted in General Discussion on January 29, 2004 05:13am

Hi folks,

Anyone here ever rebuiltrestored a log cabin?  I’m working with a homeowner who has one built from early 1900s who has dismantled it and wants to reconstruct it at a new site.  Restoration as well as meeting building code for a single family residence is the objective

Any thoughts or experiences?

I can provide more details if you like but its just in the brainstorming stage right now.

Thanks

Mike

Don't know that these will help all that much.  If you don't get the answers here on Breaktime, perhaps you could contact someone at the first three sites listed below for some advice, although I would guess that code wasn't much of an issue in some of these.

Restoration as well as meeting building code.....

That sounds like it could be a significant challenge, depending on where you are. In many areas, total R-value of the wall and roof systems are specified in the code. If that is the case in your area, you might have a problem.

Vast projects should not be founded on half vast ideas.

RUN...as fast as you can..don't look directly at the logs..shield yourself from the incredible crazy attraction to actually trying this..it will kill you sooooo slowly, that you will post here asking for a quick merciful death..you will be chomping down on files and yanking them out of your mouth..just to distract you from the more pressing feeling of having wet farts..all the time. Ever lean back in a chair and feel like you were going over?..That's how you feel ALL the time. With wet farts a distinct possibility..

If for some insane reason..you want to feel like that ALL the time..search  for psychiatric help..hide all your guns, get divorced now (why wait, till you are a drooling imbecile) and give your truck keys to a close friend ..or me...HA HA HA HA HA ..oh sorry time for more pills..

here, here is what it looks like..from one who knows..oh, the pain, the pain.
