Looking for a special tub overflow/dr…

The overflow that I am familiar with, and also available in Canada, by the way, is made by Gerberit. Kinda pricey, but they look good and won’t poke the kids.

While visiting my cousins in Canada, I noticed they had a tub drain/overflow setup that had no lever, and was very low profile. It was octagon shaped and turned 1/2 turn to open or close the drain. Of course it had no name on it! And his plumber is on vacation for 3 weeks!

We just put in a Maax (from Canada - Gabe would be happy) 4' tub-shower and the overflow fitting is on the side (front as you stand and look at it). The kids keep poking themselves in the back on the darn lever.

    Please help my children.

*Rob, call Hillary, she's in charge of helping "The Children". Talks of it incessantly, I'm sure she can handle a simple thing like this? Joe H

*Rob - The first place I would check is with a company called Brasstech. I have no idea if they have a web site, but any decent plumbing supply should have their catalog. They make all variety of waste and overflows. Other than that, if you have a local plumbing showroom, call them. One of the sales peole should know where to find what you want.

*Rob, check at Home Depot (I know, Boo! Hiss!) or the supply of your choice. I know HD carries a retrofit kit which does away with the trip lever, instead the overflow will be just a flat plate. The drain has either a turn and lift or a push-button type of seal instead of the typical strainer and internal plug. Probably not as nice as your cousins' but it should effectively stop your kids from looking like you beat 'em.

*Several US manufacturers make pop-up drain plugs. You push them down to seal the drain, push again and they pop-up with a spring. No lever at the overflow.

*Joe,I know about Hillary, I'm in NY. I thought I had already served my 8 years! So they are pretty prevalent, sounds good. I'll look when I go to "the city" later on in the week.-Rob

*There are dozens of leverless setups but the best product I think,is the one Mike mentioned. Why mess with any kind of setup that requires linkages etc. when you can use a foolproof and simple tip toe drain which comes in many different qualities to suit your taste and budget.

*Rob, I recently installed something similiar in a wirlpool tub. The crome trim is somewhat triangular and projects about an inch from the tub body with no lever. You rotate the whole trim piece about 1/8 turn for open/close. The abs drain and overflow setup was longer for the deeper tub, but I think adjustable. The linkage is a cable and seems to work quite a bit more smoothly than the lever action types. Been in about 6 mos and so far very pleased. Like you said there's no brand name stamp so if you want me to contact my supplier let me know and I'll try to get you brand and price info.

*Be careful of the pop ups. I've had clients who have hated them (stub toe, one split the skin between his toes when he slipped).
