in the past I’ve made my own shampoo shelves in shower stalls by folding up the membrane and mudding it in, then tile. its a little time consuming.
I did see a one piece component somewhere but cannot remember where. anybody know where? thanks

I think from the same folks who sell the tile-able shower seat.

I've not used them but there was one was shown in JLC from this past April. http://www.bonsal.com.
I use a paint on membrane for my shower pans and this is very easy for doing shelves and niches. I have been using the Laticrete product that you embed fabric at the joints in the corners, they now have a new product (I have not used) which doesn't use fabric and can span up to 1/8" gaps, check their website also.

A good tile shop (not a big box store) should have one-piece ceramic shelves. That's where I got one.
