I guess the only reason he hung around for two years was because of the short password.
Well, I think it was nice of him to re-register with a long password, that he would never again have had to reenter, to let us know why he was leaving.

I'm still laughing my azz off!!!
You say that you'll never have to enter the password again? Why not?
What if I went to visit my mom and wanted to log on at her computer, how would I do so?
Doug
"You say that you'll never have to enter the password again? Why not?"It appears that the you are remember by cookies on YOUR computer. So, unless log off, the next time that you enter it will check on your computer and reconize that it is you.You can still log on from another location. But you might want to uncheck that box to remember who you are unless you want to "mother" to post as you. This is very common on forums.
Are people really ticked that they'll have to type e i g h t characters to get in here to type up a message of complaint? 6
I dont know
This is just a test to see if I can post. I wonder If I lost all my old posts.

Be sure to demand a refund on your way out.

post to Sysop and get guest
I'm guessing, but it looks like, since different users can be "sysop" at different times, that when they change or logout, the system then resolves that conflict by applying either "ALL" or "Guest" to what had been "SYSOP."
But, that's a clean guess on my part.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
actually the reason that happened is because I was in here for a while as SYSOP then my account cgot corrupted and I had to reset it. So all posts I made during that corrupted time then got converted to guest.
On the "anyone can post as SYSOP" thing, that was the way in the old system, not so anymore. All screen names are now unique. -MarkSYSOP[email protected]Have you updated your forum profile lately? Please Do!
I tried to register with the same name I had in the old system, but the new system won't accept anything with a space in it. So, I've started over without the space.

Did you use the same email address as was in the previous registration? That should preserve user history. -MSYSOP[email protected]Have you updated your forum profile lately? Please Do!
I used the same e-mail addy and all is gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I went to "re-register", the system did not recognize my email address. So I created a new account using that email address. It looks like I'm still myself.
I used the same e-mail address and lost all my history.

What if I want to go to someone else's house who btw is not registered on BT, will I be allowed to log on as "DougU"?
And what if I erase all my cookies, will I then have to sign in? I'm so confused!
Just want to know the procedure, was going to be gone for a couple days and you know how it is, "miss a day and you miss a lot", around here.
Thanks
Doug
"What if I want to go to someone else's house who btw is not registered on BT, will I be allowed to log on as "DougU"?And what if I erase all my cookies, will I then have to sign in? I'm so confused!"If you erase the cookies it will YOUR COMPUTER will be unknow to BT. But you information will still be in the BT system. Just relog in.You can LOG IN from any computer, but you can't try and rerigster.BTW, I found a flaw in the system. Until it is fixed if you log out you have to shut down the browser before it forgets you. Otherwise you are still logged in.
Thank you Bill
Bill,
Here is a better description of the "flaw" that you describe. If you hit the logout button on the forums you will be logged out of the forums and from the Taunton site, if you go to Taunton.com and hit the logout button there then you will be logged out of Taunton.com and not the forums. Is that the experience you had? But no matter what if you hit the logout button here on the forums, you will be logged out of the forums. Let me know if that is not what you are seeing. -M

"If you hit the logout button on the forums you will be logged out of the forums and from the Taunton site, if you go to Taunton.com and hit the logout button there then you will be logged out of Taunton.com and not the forums. Is that the experience you had?"No.I I am in the forum and hit log out and then accept that.I dumps me at http://www.taunton.com/index.aspIf you then click on a forum link you are returned to forum as being logged in. My Forums show me as being logged in as BillHartmann. But when I go to log out again then the confirmation screen just shows me as "." although MY FORUMS has me correct. The system does not forget me until I close the http://www.taunton.com window. What I did was exactly what would happen if a husband and wife or co-workers had different accounts and one want to use immediately after the other. The first one would log out and then the next one would click on the forum link.BTW, FireFox browser.PS, I don't know of any way of "loging out" of Taunton other than closing it. And I have not used the shopping which would require some kind of "log in".

Mark, I posted a help! in the forum suggestions folder then found you over here. I re registered today. I seem to have lost all my subscriptions and threads of high interest. I am using the same email address, I had to change my password cause the old one was not long enough. I got the same screen name back. Thanks, PaulI also had tavern access but have it no more??

You are the man. Everything is back.Life is good.
Paul
I still don't have any of my history. It would be nice to be able to get it back if possible.
Tom,
I will rest your account again and that should clear this up. Please keep an eye on the other post I started as that is where I will annouce when I have reset the users. -MarkSYSOP[email protected]Have you updated your forum profile lately? Please Do!
Thanks. Looks like I'm back to being me.Tom

DougU,
Yes you will need to log in if you go to someone else computer and if you log off of yours as well. But there shouldn't be any problems with doing that. -MarkSYSOP[email protected]Have you updated your forum profile lately? Please Do!
Thanks Mark
I lost the amount of posts I had for three years but if you click on my name from a couple days ago from a post that I made you will see them but if you click on my name now you will only see the few that I made today. Maybe because I didn't put in my old password becasue it was changed so many times I didn't know what it was?Joe Carola
> Did you use the same email address as was in the previous registration? That should preserve user history. -M
No, that account was spammed out and closed long ago.
-- J.S.
yesterday, the system would recognize absolutely NOTHING about me that I entered. But the most common refrain it was singing was that I needed a longer password. It did not recognize me in any way from my email either. Whether I still have the same historical record - I have no idea.

Saw that Corneilius was back to being CAGIV <g>.
Was really more speculating that any of the approved gavel swingers could log as SYSOP, when they were not 'themselves,' a la the Administrator login on many network systems.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
You burned up a good nickname then. Dang you. Do you know how many people are on a waiting list to get a cool name like that? They're not disposable anymore like they used to be.
I'm thinking about registiring a dozen or so and then selling them this winter when traffic picks up. Hook the tourists you know.

I think you may have missed the part about having to re-register (i.e. not just login) and fill in all the blanks and questions using your old email address when you got to that question. You're starting from scratch for a password..

Easy there, Big Fella!
This is a free service that you evidently have enjoyed... and you can't get by on a slightly changed account?
Whew, hope you don't react to change orders like that.
I changed my account on purpose, new e-mail address, etc. Who cares about what was there?

If it were easy....a caveman could do it.
This here caveman seems to have his history still. If Tauntonj copuld afford to pay me by the post, the world would bne a better place now.

You could be getting paid. Post a few over at JLC and you might hear from the editors.
