Marks in granite seen only when wet?????
we have new vanity granite in two bathrooms last week.
1. In one bathroom if you put water on the granite it “water marks” / darkens the granite in about 30 seconds (the granite in the other bath does not do the “darkening” at all, and one side of the first bath does it more than on the other side) ) – the darkening goes away in a few minutes as the water dries
but
2, while its wet you can see faint marks in the granite like someone wrote on it looks like the words “straight on” – maybe put there during cutting?
the marks are very faint, are lighter in color and go away when the granite dries.
What is this??

It doesn't sound like it is real granite. If you paid for real granite I'd suggest negotiating for a partial refund in any case. I would not expect anyone to accept something like you described as a finished product. Call them back and have them make it right.
Its real- very hard stuff

Someone wrote on the slab with a wax pencil. You might be able to wash it away with the right detergent and/or solvent, but probably not worth the effort.

Have them come back and at least clean it. there are lots of products for hat kind of thing. has it already been sealed?
they say they sealed it, but the one upstairs absorbs NO water.
the saleswoman said "well light colors absorb more water"- the upstairs one is medium brown. downstairs (the absorbing one ) is white with lots of spects. one sid eof the white one really soaks it up, the other side does not so I think its a crappy sealing job.
dont know what the writing is that coms out when its wet tho
when we selected the granite (for a simple piece 22x49 bath vanity rectangular top with a drop in sink cut out) the piece had only a paper tag on it identifying it to our bathroom and street address.Somewhere later someone must have written on it. The words say "Start on this side"Granite people are coming back tomorrow - they claim they have never heard of this type problem- in business 20 years.
I wonder
1. if they put sealer on it will the sealer darken it by absorbing in (like water does) and cause the writting to appear, then be locked in permanently by the sealer?
2. or do they need tp get the writing off before installing the sealer- -
3. if the granite is wet from water being on it does it have to dry before sealer application
They'll clean it with Acetone ... unless it has been color-treated.
