As per my title, I remember a flooring one of my contractor friends used on a job about 30 years ago that was exquisite. However, any of my suppliers think I’m nuts because they have never heard of such a product. The flooring was made of a soft rubber type mat’l that was resistant to cuts, burns, etc. It came in ‘planks’ similar to todays laminated flooring approx. 6″ wide by about 4′ long. The ‘planks’ were about 1/2″ or 3/8″ thick and T&G (or shiplapped I’m not 100% sure) as well as end matched. The floor was installed in a mastic and the ‘planks’ simulated wood grain and resulted in a very attractive and functionally efficient floor. I can’t seem to get this floor out of my mind and every once in awhile I recall it to a customer and agonize over not finding it once again. I lived in Colorado at the time when I first saw this mat’l and now live in the Northeast so that may explain its unavailability. If there is anyone out there with any feedback as to my sanity or lack thereof, please respond. However, please take my advancing years and heart condition in consideration. Thanks!

Yes.
And it was still available in the last 5/10 yrs. I'm sorry but that's all I can remember. We took up an old one-10/12 yrs old or so, and put in this new one. If was not cut proof. Just solid (again, I think) color throughout. Plank style, this one was a white washed wood look.
Peruse Armstrong. I don't think I have the old file handy that would name the manufacturer.
A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

Thanks for your post calvin. The armstrong site shows some exquisite floors but not quite what I remember. The tiles seem to be thinner and the color doesn't run throughout. If you come across the manufacture of the tile you used I'ld be interested in looking more into it.
Well, I still could join you in being crazy.
I talked to a floor layer with years experience, he doesn't remember anything of the sort. I called one of our local suppliers and he says the same. All he could come up with are the strip faux wood look vinyls from Domco, Nafco, Armstrong too. None with the color throughout, but the domco was a pretty thick wear layer.
It could be we're both dumb as a stump.
Did you try Roppe? They are the rubber base kings.A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.
