I am looking for a reasonably priced megger on the market. Anybody able to recommend one they like?

A standardized approach, quick-to-install hardware, and a simplified design make building custom casework cost-effective.

What the heck is a "megger"?
Is it something like a henway ???
Used to check insulation. Crank up a high volt signal and measure resistance to ground.
O.K. - Thanks. Never heard of one before. Can you test both fiberglass AND cellulous insulation?(-:
Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules, and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence: in other words, it is war minus the shooting. [George Orwell, "Shooting an Elephant"]
Sure. I've seen some electricians test each other.
My father got my mother with one. And that was when they where dating. It was a hand crank job..

Nothing says "I love you" like that.
So I am thinking a "Megger" must be some form of birth control?
They can't get your Goat if you don't tell them where it is hidden.
"So I am thinking a "Megger" must be some form of birth control?"Clearly it did not work. These are similar to what he had.http://www.richardsradios.co.uk/evershed.html.

reminds me of a hand crank WW11 surplus generator my dad had for awhile. After having a few drinks he and my uncles thought it fun to have us kids hold the leads while my 6'2" and 220lb uncle cranked it over.

Bill, my neighbor's hoodlum son had a motorcycle he'd let us hang onto while he kicked it.
Big fun about 1955 I think........
what was I thinking?

"Can you test both fiberglass AND cellulous insulation?"Only if your roof is vented.

Only if your roof is vented.
Don't try starting that again!!

So, Joe,Can I officially put you down in the "non-vented" roof category?

Yup.
DP cells or spray it.

having used many meggers I would first ask you what you using it for ?
unless you're checking anything above 250 Volts you sure don't need 5000 Volt testers, but most of the newer ones are a simple one button operation
Fluke and Amprobe are two that would probably work for you

Grainger sells a model, made by Supro, for about $140. That's plenty good for anything you will be needing to do.
I use a variac and an old surplus 10kV oil furnace transformer for a megger, fairly safe, as the xfmr leakage inductance limit current to under 20 mA, nasty shock, but not enough to cause fibrillation from a safety standpoint.
Surplus power supplies out of disarded copy machines work well also, though most only go to 6 kV.
Old microwave oven xfmrs are typically 7 kV, ya can get up to 100's of kV with a few of those in series, but very lethal if not understood. I very rarlEy add something like th note below TO ANY OF MY POSTS, but in this case it is needed if somebody thinks to just 'play with' old microwave oven parts.
CAUTION YOU CAN DIE- the above is NOT for the casual DIY, multiple microwave oven xfmrs can kill you real quick if you do not know what you are doing!!!!!!!!!!!! Even one xfmr at 7 kV and over 100 ma can kill YOU, as well documented
I've got a couple out in the garage but I can't for the life of me think of the brand name. And I'm already in my jammies so I'm not looking now. I'll try to remember to look tomorrow.
Just make sure your on the end with the button. That's all I got to say about it.
C'mon C'mon and do..... The locomotion with me.
