Hi all
Just outside Boston
I dismantled a leaky decrepit workshop attached to my home last summer,’06 and built a garage and living space above addition in its place.
I have 10 14″ X 3″ X 20′ beams that used to support the roof, look like doug fir but not certain. I hope to be able to mill them in to either casing or flooring but have neither the equipment or time (addition framed 14 months ago, just getting rough plumbing & elec done this week).
Anyone have any ideas who or where in Eastern MA might have a go at something like this? Some fasteners in the wood but not loaded, easy to find w/ metal detector.
I would salvage something other than just the footprint of the building. I finally just got rid of the 4 5’X12′ John Hancock windows the other day, that I had posted here a few times. Love the Craigslist, guy spent all summer building a cart to tow them up to NH on, brought a few buddies the other night and they are now someone else’s worry.
Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim,
Try Bingham Lumber in Brookline N.H. They used to mill there own stuff on site, I am not sure if they still do, but I am sure they could help you out. binghamlumber.com.
You could also try Nelson and Power custom millwork. We have used them before to run some custom trim and they were easy to deal with. They are in Woburn off of Washington Street, if you are interested I can give you better directions.
Good Luck
Tim
Thanks Tim
Woburn is 10 minutes away, I will give them a try 1st. I appreciate the tip.
Maybe I should try doing the end grain floor mentioned in the other post titled "Unusual Hardwood Floors"
Looks like something my tools and mind can handle, and the old growth Doug fir might look very nice.
