I have a client thet wants miratec for fascia boards and exterior window trim, anybody use this before or know of its performance? Have used cedar and hardie before but can’t give the owner a good reference.
Thanks,

I just got finished putting a boat load of the stuff on a 3 story garage!! It is about the 7th job that I've used it now and here are my feelings on the stuff...
1.It's heavier 'n' hell
2. I sometimes have a tough time getting the scarf joints to match up well..not so much on horizontal pieces, but more so on long corners. Also, I found it much easier to pre-nail the stuff together for all my corners wherever possible, caulking the outside seam and nailing through it while on my sawhorses made for a much easier and tighter seam than trying to do it on the wall corner in two steps. The stuff flexes side to side, so eyeballing it/snapping lines to ensure straightness is key.Took some playing with it to get the feel of it. One of the beauties of the stuff is that it is about perfectly flat...no cups or wanes to mess a long compound maitre cut.
3.The primer/exterior on the stuff is rock hard (much like Hardi) and doesn't seem to want to be nailed into very willingly. Especially if you have 2 or three layers being nailed together. I tried to adjust my siding nailer (Hitachi NV65AH...I think) but to no avail...had to hand nail the second two layers. Also, I found that I needed to go with a true wire nail for the stuff. the "plastic" coils that Hitachi makes for their nailers are junk in my opinion..
4. Its heavier 'n hell....
All in all, I like the stuff..that's why I'm putting it on my house in 4 weeks...
Good Luck!
One of our local lumber yards wanted to see how it stood up to water. They pput a sample in a bucket of water and kept it imursed for most of a year a I recall. To everybodys surprise, the Meratec swelled only a small fraction (~1/32) of an inch. I was impressed and intend to use it on an upcoming project if my estimate is accepted.
Just wanted to let you guys know that Miratec is great stuff, cuts like a dream, goes up in 16' straight lengths, takes paint great. I am sold and so was my client. Could be some repeat business from their friends that have seen the finished product.
Thanks for the input!
Joe
