Over 10 years ago I installed a shower for a client using the “then new” Schluter system. It turned out great but they went with white subway tiles floor to ceiling with white grout. Anyway, they are getting older and the appearance of that grout is difficult to keep up and they would like a smaller curb. A few questions… 1) has anyone demo’d tile that was set on Schluter board? If so, can I assume that it is totally destroyed in the demo process? 2) What quality shower systems have you used? Any issues with the retro fit? Thanks and Happy 4th!

I have been able to remove tiles that were not sufficiently thinsetted. But I'm sure that the bond between tile and Schluter is permanent and you will have to replace the Schluter. I've set tile for 45 years and Schluter "is" the quality shower system. Nothing else comes close.
Thanks, Bing.
Yes, from what I have seen, Schluter is the best. If we go with tile again, it will have only have 1/16 gap with dark grout. They are also considering a modular, 3pc wall & basin type system to eliminate future grout cleaning altogether.
