Mounting solid surface countertops
I’ve ordered Staron (solid surface) countertops from the fabricator, and just realized I’m not sure how to attach them. Do you bond it to 1/2 plywood or something? I’m doing a self-rimming sink.
Thanks in advance for your advice

The fabricator will probably supply them with plywood or similar build-up strips siliconed to the bottom of the countertop......you screw up into those.
OK- so, I can just silicone (and clamp?) plywood to the underside if needed? Thanks
Yes, that's pretty standard practice......2 narrow strips of ply (3-4"), attached with a dap of silicone every 10" or so....not a continuous bead. That would be 'normal', and already done for you by any of the fabricators in my area.....unless there is something unusual in your situation. Your fabricator should be able to advise you specifically on what you need to do.Cabinetmaker/college woodworking instructor. Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Why not a continuous bead of silicone?

Short answer....that's what's required by any of the manufacturers whose products I've worked with. Thinking behind it would be, I believe, that you don't want to restrict the countertops ability to move if it gets heated....like if a hot pan was placed on it, or something like that. The dabs hold just fine, so that's what I do.Cabinetmaker/college woodworking instructor. Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
