I had some time today and searched the archives. I didn’t have any idea that vented/non vented roofs were such a sensitive and hot topic on Breaktime. So if my initial blunt blundering into this subject and replies offended anyone I am sorry. I was curious why some seemed so disgusted with me (JRS and Gabe) and reading the archives helped to explain why.
I’ve wanted to build a house the way we are for years. One thing I learned here is I must seal the wall bays form the ceiling bays. And If we do need to vent it is as simple as adding sleepers and another roof deck. But I am as curious as anyone else as to how this house will work.
Thanks for all the compliments on our house.

First of all, the word is spelled "amateur". Second of all, you are obviously an anarchist doing stuff your own way and then checking the archives! And then lastly, checking the archives and repenting for possible wrongs! For that you should be exiled to the Dakotas! hang around, we need you.
*Jesse,You're "Vented roofs are boring" post makes it hard for me to believe you had no idea that this was a controversial topic here. The graphic was in poor taste, and I refused to be baited on that post. It did cause me to check out your other post, where I felt I should respond. So, it was within that context that my opinion of you formed. I wasn't bothered by your opinions on building, just your style.Good luck on your project, don't be shy about posting more questions or comments(as if you need my advice about that! ;-)John
*Jesse,My compliments to you for (mostly) keeping a cool head under critical questioning of your methods. You too Gabe. Back to lurk mode. (actually back to work mode...too busy for much of this anymore.)Steve Zerby
*Steve,Did you make your move? How's it going?Curiously,MD
*yeh steve... new digs ?or more of the same old ?
*Hi Mike and Mad Dog,I was all but out the door, setting up phone accounts, getting the paperwork in line for licensing, etc, when I got a call from a local contractor who is a friend of a friend. He's swamped with high-end work and heard good things about me. So I'm still in Central New York for now. I've been doing a four-day work week in Manhatten for a month or more, then it's on to several large-scale, very high-quality additions around here. Plus I've started the design work for one of my own clients on what could mushroom into a multi-year, mid-six figure project. So the game plan for now is to ride the wave while it's here. Thanks for asking. Sorry I've got so little time to visit here anymore. I'm home this week making a mantlepiece for a local client, so I've been procratinating by stopping by breaktime.Steve
*procrastinating is my middle name...good luck
