What does a framing carpenter make per hour in the greater Boston area?

    From about $10 to $25/hr depending on what you know and who you're working for.  Seriously, the range is that ridiculous.

      Mike, how many hours you guys get last year?  (I'm not trying to start a union vs non-union war).  The only real complaints I tend to hear from union guys around here are boredom from repetition and too much down time.View Image

        Union carpenters here fall into 4 job descriptions: Concrete form builders, steel studs, drywall hangers, and laid off. 

        Most large commercial projects are sub'ed out to smaller non-union contractors by large GC's.  The only jobs using union carpenters are government jobs.My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard

          Not true . Not in the Boston area . And your catigories are all wrong . In Boston 90% of all Boston work is Union . And there is a boom about to break loose . For your info the breakdown goes like this .

          Concreate Formwork

          Framers and Drywall

          Finish Carpenters

          Doors and hardware

          Wood frame Carpenters

          Floor layers

          Underwater construction

          All come under the Carpenters umbrella .

          Get your facts Straight .

            Those are pretty good hours you're getting.   (For a banker!..... relax I'm just kidding)   That's more than most of the guys I've talked to, which isn't many, to be fair.  I get union guys coming by the jobs from time to time looking to hire on for cash during their down time.  That's about all the sampling I get.

            But, you're talking mainly about commercial work though aren't you?  Or is that a wrong assumption?  Here in MA I tend to think of union carpenters as handling commercial work and don't think I've ever seen a union crew doing a residential job unless is was an enourmous condo gig that would be too large for most of us small fries anyway.View Image

            Yes , you are correct sir . Although there is only one company that I know of that does residential that is Union . They stay busy year round . A friend of mine works for them .

            Southern Illinois here.

            UNION STRONG

            I do about 50/50 residential/commercial

            There are three wage scales for journeyman and then three for the cubs

            Hope we get a boom soon

             An inch too short.  That's the story of my life !
