have a 60year old house.The ceiling of the upstairs rooms mimic the shape of the outrside of the house.There are 2 by 8 rafters with no insulation between them.I wouldlike to install 2 inch ridgid insulation between the rafters and then a layer across the whole ceinling then drywallon top of this.Leaving an air barrier between the roof and the insulation.Also their are no soffit vents or roof vents now I willput in a ridge vent and soffit vents.Does thhis sound like the way to do it.Would appreciate any input.

It is a way.
A possibly very labor intensive way.
Some other ways;
- Fill space with blown cellulose and no vents but adding perfect VB
- place FG R-19 with space aboce for ventilation and run 1" foam board then SR over furring
- my favorite - spray urerthene foam to back side of sheathing. Expensive but definitely best and needs no vents and no installation labor from you.
